Why do we act? behavioral, physiological and theoretical studies of brain systems Dr. Barry Richmond Resumen Without motivation there is no goal-directed action. How does the brain assess whether the outcome of action is valuable enough to undertake the action? We are trying to identify the brain systems critical for motivation, the mechanisms that underlie motivation, and theoretical principles that describe how the value of our actions might be predicted. I will describe results from all of our approaches. El Dr. Richmond es médico pediatra y neurólogo, y dirige un laboratorio de investigación en neuropsicología en el NIH(National Institute of Health) USA, donde se estudia cómo la información de estímulos visuales es codificada y procesada por los primates. En los últimos años se dedicó al estudio los mecanismos cerebrales involucrados en regular la motivación para actuar, dependiendo de las espectativas que tenemos acerca de los beneficios que resulten de nuestras acciones. La charla será en inglés.
