3) RESUMEN:
In this seminar, I will present the current status and recent developments in nuclear fusion and plasma science activities in Brazil. Special emphasis will be given to the current status of the implementation of a National Program for Nuclear Fusion and to the upgrade that is being conducted on the TCABR tokamak - a small-size tokamak (R0 = 0.62 m and a = 0.2 m) operated at the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. This upgrade consists mainly in the installation of: (i) graphite protection tiles to cover entirely the inner surface of the vacuum vessel wall; (ii) new poloidal field coils to allow for the generation of various divertor configurations, such as single-null, double-null, snowflake and X-point target divertors; (iii) in-vessel HFS and LFS non-axisymmetric control coils for ELM suppression studies; and (iv) a localized helicity injection system to improve plasma start-up. Among other goals, this upgrade will allow for studies of the impact of RMP fields applied from the LFS and/or the HFS, with static or rotating fields with toroidal mode numbers up to n = 9, on advanced divertor configurations. An important aspect of this upgrade is that it serves to pave the road towards the establishment of a national laboratory that will be constructed in Brazil to concentrate and coordinate activities on nuclear fusion across the country.

Visiting Professor at the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Associate Professor at the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Coordinator of the TCABR upgrade project. Coordinator of the Plasma Physics area within the Brazilian Physical Society. Executive Secretary of the Brazilian National Fusion Network.
